MACEDA: CYBERCRIME LAW UNCONSTITUTIONAL

Former Senate President Ernesto Maceda today joined the protest against the Cybercrime Law saying it is unconstitutional and violates freedom of speech and expression.

"I have taken a stand in the past supporting the decriminalization of libel. This law that criminalizes libel online is a step backward in our democracy," Maceda said.

In his twitter account @SenMaceda, former Senator Ernesto Maceda bashed incumbent senators who passed the Cymbercrime Law. He tweeted: "Were the legislators sleeping when the #CybercrimeLaw was on the senate floor? Why did they let it pass without amending it?"

Maceda also praised Senator TG Guingona for being the only one who took a stand against the passage of this law.
